I often get so bored once I smoke. TV does the trick as a short-term solution, but what is there to do long term? Where to go? What to see? It’s hard enough for the average Joe to figure out, but what about us stoners? “Everyone knows!” -the paranoia can get to you. No worries, as a stoner, I’ve been there and I’m here to help!
The Ridges

If you like ghost hauntings and stories, you’ll love The Ridges! Previously an Insane Asylum from 1874-1993, is now partially abandoned, partially administrative offices for the University, and partially an Art Museum / Café. Rumor is though, that it’s 100% haunted! Numerous sightings have occurred here, which is to no surprise! The torcher and wrongful deaths that many patients went through is enough to create scary vibes, let alone actual hauntings. The most “haunted” areas are the tuberculosis wing and the operating rooms where the lobotomies were performed. Nearly 2,000 people died on property during the 119 years that it was open and operating as an Insane Asylum.
Pleasant Hill Winery

Want to work on that cross-fade without being caught at the unruly college bars? Check out the Wineries (or Breweries) in the area! My favorite is Pleasant Hill Winery (about 10 minutes from Campus) but I spent just about the same amount of time at Shade Winery (about 15 minutes from Campus). I am not a fan of beer but many of my stoner friends would frequent at JackieO’s and Little Fish; they all have more hipster vibes, perfect for stoners.
There are a few reasons why I love Pleasant Hill Winery (PHW) so much. First of all, the I enjoy the wine profiles and prices so much more, they have a little bit of something for everyone at a very affordable cost. The owner himself is happy to chat with you if you’re interested in more information or the process, but if you’d just like to buy a glass or a bottle and retreat to your corner, he’s happy to let you do so. There vineyard spans over numerous hills and valleys allowing for beautiful landscapes. There outdoor deck space is the place to be at, with many options of furniture and views. If you order food, they’ll bring it out to you but they won’t keep coming up to you to ask if you need more assistance (which is fantastic as a stoner); if you need something, they expect you will meander up to the kitchen and order / ask accordingly. I’ve brought my vaporizer and puffed on the lowest deck away from everyone else, sipping on my wine for too many hours. It is a fantastic unwind spot to enhance the cross-fade.
Fun Barn at Movies 10

Looking for something a little more active? Fun Barn / Movies Ten is the place to check out! Movies Ten started off as a discount movie theater that played up to date movies; by discount, I’m talking about $4 tickets! They don’t even gouge you on food prices. A large soda will go for $1.50 and a large popcorn will cost you $3. I can go to the movies for less than $10, food included! After a few years, they expanded into the Fun Barn, a good-sized arcade that is kid and adult friendly. The prices on the machines are reasonable, allowing you to play longer than you would in other bigger cities. All the kids are so enthralled in their games, they never even notice how red and slanty my eyes are, or how I giggle a little more than I normally would. It’s a great place to enjoy the effects of edibles and other THC products, while not spending a fortune.
There’re other things to do in little old Athens, Ohio of course, these are just a few of my favorites as a stoner, traveling through. I hope you enjoy your time; O! U! Oh Yeah!
