Munchies. They always get to the best of us. It doesn’t matter how recent you last ate – you’re going to be hungry. Every city has their fair share of local restaurants. But how to sort through and choose which restaurant is “the one” for your next meal?
I’m here to share my best cuisine experiences as a stoner keeping in consideration the distance, price, umami, convenience, cleanliness and customer service.
Amatos
Amato’s is an Italian Restaurant chain that is established, headquartered and mostly resides in Maine. It has been growing presence in to other New England States. Their vast menu includes pasta, pizza and other Italian eats. What makes Amato’s so addicting is their delicious Pazzo Bread, their version of cheese sticks.
I originally wrote Amato’s off as a generic pizza chain, therefor, having minimal interest in it. However, as a DoorDash Driver, I accepted SO MANY orders for Amato’s, particularly their Pazzo Bread. That’s how the addiction started – being taunted with its mouthwatering smell day after day. After an entire week of torturing myself with its scent, I broke down and ordered some of their Stuffers and more importantly, their Pazzo Bread. I have had my fair share of cheesy bread as a lover of both cheese and bread. But their Pazzo Bread was so savory. What’s even better? They carry beer, wine and other convenient store goodies such as soda, chips, and baked goods. All available for carryout OR delivery (which is clutch for us stoners). Many restaurants compete for parking but each Amato’s has a parking lot conveniently located next to it.
With good prices, delicious eats, a wide selection of sides and drinks, convenient parking for carryout and delivery options, Amato’s most definitely made it on the list for top restaurants for stoners to get takeout from in Portland, Maine.
POMS Thai Restaurant
I take the word of locals very seriously – they live here after all and have access to the region’s cuisine all the time. After hearing POMS Thai Restaurant come up numerous times, I opted to give it a try. With only having carryout options due to Covid-19, they had a quick and efficient process – the food was made in a timely manner that was accurately estimated (nobody likes cold food that’s been sitting in the lobby for who knows how long). I would “highly” recommend trying the Egg Rolls & Pad Thai. Both were perfectly cooked and surprisingly traveled well during the 25-minute commute back home (in addition to a packing of a bowl of course). It was reasonably priced, being authentic Thai food and well worth the price. The restaurant seemed clean when I was picking up, which is most definitely important, now more than ever. The staff was very friendly for the 30 seconds I was there, making sure I had everything I needed (I, of course was about to forget chopsticks as I was exiting; silly stoner). POMS Thai Restaurant in South Portland, Maine is a go to place for stoners when visiting!
Totally Awesome Vegan Food Truck
My 3rd and final recommendation for an “awesome” carryout option for stoners is Totally Awesome Vegan Food Truck. I am not a vegetarian nor a vegan. The food here is just bomb. They move to a couple different locations being a food truck, but they often post when and where they will be on their website and social media. Their limited menu consists of a burger, a sandwich, a coney dog and some slutty tots (aka gravy smother tots), all of which are meatless. Which you’d never guess with how fulfilling my bites were; Umami was on point! They have a couple of breakfast options available on Sundays, which I unfortunately did not have the chance to try but they sounded really tasty – a brekky sandwich and some more slutty tots (aka maple chipotle tots). Look them up next time you’re in town!
